The Imperial Japanese Army decided to put a wide aperture rear sight tha thas an anti-aircraft capabilty, with a slick "cock-on-close" straight bolt Mauser type action. We delve into the effectiveness of these sights, but most importantly, why did the IJA decide on this radical departure from the standard type rifle sights of the era?
