Hitler did NOT underestimate the United States. Additionally, in the 1920ies and 1930ies, he was very positive about the United States. He saw it as a role model, but also as a threat. His views changed quite substantially during or maybe even before the war. This video features Dr. Klaus Schmider from the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst who researched this topics over the last few years. Battle of the Bulge: Volksgrenadier R...
The report of the 212th Volksgrenadierdivision on the Battle of the Bulge is quite revealing. It clearly points out various shortcomings on the German side, but also details the strength of the US 4th Infantry Division. It gives many reasons beyond the "material superiority" trope, like tenacious...

Why no Western Allied StuGs?
Why no Allied Sturmgeschütze or more precise why not Western Allied casemate tanks? Why did the Western Allies used mostly turreted tank destroyers and assault guns (like the Sherman 105)?
DISCLOSURE D: I was invited by the Deutsche Panzermuseum in 2018, 2019, 2020 & 2023.
