While notably adopted by the Swiss Authorities, it was unable to compete with other LE sniper rifles in its class. The SG 550-1 was designed for the GP90 5.6x45mm cartridge with higher velocities at relatively shorter ranges (sub 500m). As time progressed, the concept of a law enforcement - specific sniper rifle gave way as the military DMR developed with new 5.56mm NATO cartridges, and subsequently matured through conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Modern police snipers use systems that are closer to the DMR-type rifles, or bolt action precision rifles, but the role of the LE sniper remains a very unique skillset that is different than the military sniper. On an off note, the SG 550-1 was represented as the "Krieg 550 Commando" in the classic FPS game, Counterstrike. How does it compare as the "auto-sniper" in Counterstrike? We find out.
